Ingredient List
  • 1 lb New York Strip Steak
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups bite-sized broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger

Thinly slice (1/4 inch) across the grain…

  • 1 lb New York Strip Steak

Mix the marinade with…

  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

Add beef to marinade for at least 10 minutes.

Steam in microwave or saucepan until firm-tender and set aside...

  • 4 cups bite-sized broccoli florets

Heat in a skillet...

  • 1 tbsp oil

Remove beef from marinade (reserve the marinade), add to skillet, and brown for one minute.

Add to the skillet…

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger

Stir fry until meat is no longer red, then add...

  • 1 cup of water

Mix together and deglaze the pan, then add reserved marinade to the skillet and mix quickly.

When sauce is bubbly, add the broccoli and simmer for another minute to thicken the sauce.

Remove from heat and immediately serve over rice.

Chinese takeout at home! This beef and broccoli recipe with it's distinctive blend of spices truly hits the mark. My daughter loves this for the broccoli, and my son loves it for the steak. But they both love it, and there's something for everyone.
